Military History Events/Demonstrations

HISTORIC MILITARY VEHICLES (on Broadway)

KILROY Chapter Motor Vehicle Preservation Association will attend with approximately 20 historic military vehicles, many of WWII vintage, including an operational WWII tank and an M5A1 Stuart Light Tank.

SONS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION (SAR) DEMONSTRATIONS

  • 18th-century process of turning flax into linen
  • Colonial militia encampment
  • Demonstration on how to load and fire flintlock muskets
  • Fife and drummer playing military music of the American Revolution
  • Spectator march from the OSC to the Arsenal (Kentucky Military History Museum) to observe the firing demonstrations 

CIVIL WAR DEMONSTRATIONS

  • Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site Civil War surgeon/medical exhibit on the lawn of the OSC 
  • 14th Kentucky Light Artillery (US) encampment on OSC lawn
  • Reenactors portraying a Union artillery regiment
  • Firing Demonstrations
    • Mortar at Fort Hill overlooking Frankfort at 8:45 am to kick off the day
    • 3-inch ordinance rifle
    • Howitzers (these will be fired at the Arsenal at 11 am following the history awards)

June 11, 1864, marks the 160th anniversary of Confederate John Hunt Morgan’s raid on Frankfort. The cannon firing will be a reenactment honoring the Frankfort militiamen stationed at the Arsenal who successfully defended the city from Morgan’s men.
